The following are summer reading requirements for select CHS courses:
10th Grade Pre-AP
Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain (NOTE: There is rather difficult colloquial dialogue in this novel; therefore, some might find it helpful to find an audio reading online and follow along in your text.)
There is no written assignment. Read and be prepared to begin discussion on the first day of school.
AP Language and Composition
Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal by Eric Schlosser
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
A Gathering of Old Men by Ernest J. Gaines
There is no written assignment. Read and be prepared to begin discussing/sharing on the first day of school. If you have any questions, feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org
AP Literature and Composition
Over the summer, read the following books:
How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
The Secret Sharer by Joseph Conrad (NOTE: This book will most likely be published in conjunction with Heart of Darkness -- we will read Heart of Darkness during the school year, so you will need that one, too; however, you are only required to read The Secret Sharer over the summer.)
There is no written assignment. Read and be prepared to discuss and take a reading quiz the first week of school.
